Bully Bluegill Fly

No comments yet

Bully Bluegill Spider flies are one of my favorite flies ever created. This might come as a surprise to some of you since it seems so basic. There is nothing grand about this fly, it's not fancy in any way. However the simplicity carries its own benefits that make this truly one of my favorite patterns ever created.

First off, this is one of the easiest flies to tie. When I get going, I can tie up 2 dozen or more in less than an hour, and I can do it without paying attention as well, like while watching TV or a podcast while tying it since its so easy and simple.

Not only is it easy, but it's also very inexpensive to tie. Using hooks like Risen's, will get you 25 hooks for $5.49 (at the time of making this video) which is only about 20 cents each, an incredible price for such high quality hooks. Then there is the chenille, which you can get a card of the micro ultra chenille for about $3-4, and a package of the rubber legs for $5 or so, and for under $15 you can tie 2 dozen with materials left over. In fact you can buy two packages of the hooks and tie 4 dozen with the list above as chenille will tie you more than a couple dozen flies.

So being easy is not the only determining factor for a great fly pattern, but it has to catch fish as well. And I can contest, this is one of my most productive patterns. I have caught a wide range of warm water fish with this fly, from sunfish to bass, to even catfish and carp. There isn't a fish that won't eat this fly. When ever Im out fishing and the day is slow, I will throw on one of these to guarantee at least a few bites.

Make sure you check out my sponsor Risen Fly. They have amazing deals on hooks and beads, but also sell some of the best fly rods Ive ever used, and at a price that is very reasonable. With the cost of fly fishing going up every year, it's refreshing to find great quality gear at prices we can all afford. Best off they are offering all of you a discount just for being my subscriber. So go to www.risenfly.com and type in McFly at checkout for 15% off your first order with them.

Also dont forget to pick up one of my fly boxes. I have both magnetic backed and silicone backed, if these sell well I plan on getting more styles as well and maybe even bringing back the shirts that everyone loved years ago. Check out my amazon store front to pick up the boxes. - www.amazon.com/shops/McFlyAngler

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
